Last months meeting at Sladden Park was a great success thanks to John ZL2HD getting the gate keys so we could get to our favourite spot, and Bruce ZL2ABC providing the BBQ and a wind-break (his van) to stop the fresh northerly breeze. We had a great time. We ate. We drank (very lightly). We talked. Some flew kites. One flew a model helicopter. We looked at mobile installations and fibre-optic cable. We flashed up a thermet. One was mucking about in a boat. Others played with bows and arrows. But mostly we ate and talked. It was another great social gathering enjoyed by all.
We are getting closer to the target of $4,500 for the Belmont Power Line Corridor Fund. So far we have raised just over $3,000. This is an absolutely tremendous effort. A special thanks to those who have purchased trees as a donation. To date 152, or just over 2/3 of the 225 trees have been purchased. So lets see if we can push it over the line in the next month or so. Click here to see the trees that have been cut down under the 11kV line:
Our Group's raison d'ĂȘtre is encouraging and enabling people to do amateur radio. It is important that we replenish our Group's funds so the money can actually be used for doing that - and not chopping down trees.
To keep it simple trees are $20 each ....... and please remember that you won't be able to take possession of your trees dead or alive (that's the trees). In recognition of your valuable contribution you will receive a Special Belmont Supporter Certificate endorsed with the number of trees donated. There are still a number of ownerless trees - 73 of them, so lets knock them off. If you only wish to donate part of a tree we have no problem teaming you up with someone else.
To purchase your trees send your donation to:

While upcoming NZART Council elections might have us thinking about what the candidates might do for us and for amateur radio, perhaps it is a good time to ask what we can do for amateur radio. Our Group has many initiatives underway (see my blog last month). Where might you be able to contribute to the promotion and preservation of a service and hobby that gives so much pleasure?
