OCTOBER MEETING, Thursday 25th October, 7:30pm, Tawa Community Centre, Cambridge Street, Tawa. (Talk-in on 710 repeater).
This months meeting is made up of the Annual General Meeting, (the formal part), followed by a presentation by Stan Swan, our guest speaker for the evening, (the entertaining part).
The AGM business is to: Receive reports from Officers; Elect President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and six Committee; appoint the Auditor; and receive Members submissions and remits. Members are reminded that the Group needs your support, so come along and have your say!
Our guest speaker is Stan Swan, the well known Picaxe enthusiast, educator and writer, who will introduce the topic of PICAXE® microcontrollers. Stan’s presentation promises to be practical and fun. Check out Stan's resource web site if you wish to get some idea of the topic ahead of the presentation.
If you've been meaning to get into PICs, but thought or found the process akin to mapping DNA sequences, or coding in binary, then these PICAXEs are the answer. PICAXE microcontrollers are exciting, low-cost, re-programmable chips that can be used as low-cost 'brains' in many kinds of electronic project, including Amateur Radio.
Stan says, “I'll probably end up getting half your guys keen to build up simple DIY PICAXE kits. These seem to appeal to all ages, and recent digital electronics work at Weltec with NZ Army Signals students has been enthusiastically PICAXE slantedâ€. Stan is an Amateur – and also currently a Trustee for the Massey University station in Wellington, ZL2AJZ.
